MAWIMBI offers you a tailormade holiday – with 2 activities included a day (and as many more as you want to fit in) we want your holiday to be the best it can be. On arrival, you can plan your bespoke stay at MAWIMBI – Choose from GAME DRIVES (sunrise, sunset & night drives), RIVER TRIPS (morning or afternoon) or WALKING SAFARIS (times to be decided)
GAME DRIVES
We have abundant wildlife in Kafue National Park and we ahve the full 22,400 square kilometres to explore if that is your wish! If you’re a morning person, we have a beautiful sunrise Game Drive and if you wish to relax in bed and have a lazy norning, choose a sunset drive, or a night drive, or both! Sightings are abundant from buffalo, leopard, lion and elephant to monitor lizards, puku, impala and zebra.
But that’s not all, our birdlife is wonderful at MAWIMBI – from the morning chorus to bee eaters to vultures directing us to where there’s a kill.
RIVER TRIPS
We are privileged to be on the great Kafue River, and we offer a unique river safari where we gently cruise on the river, observing the wildlife from the water. You’ll see wildlife coming to the water to drink, hippos languishing in the water, and crocs sunning themselves on the rocks.
A luncheon river trip will allow for a stop on the river to have a delicious picnic before floating on.
The birdlife is also rich on the Kafue River and right in front of the camp lapa, you’ll see a pied kingfisher diving for it’s lunch!
WALKING SAFARIS
They say Zambians invented the walking safari. It is a wonderful way to see the wildlife of MAWIMBI and immerse yourself in nature…seeing not only the animals and birds, but learning about their spoor (animal tracks), their droppings and appreciating the interconnectedness of everything from the insects to the large game in the circle of life.
We can adapt to different interest and fitness levels and going gently into the bush gives you a sense of awe. The dambo (natural wetland) behind camp is a short walk away and a constant source of wildlife activity, as well as walks further afield. An armed scout will accompany you on your safari to ensure you’re always safe.
BIRDING
The birding in the Kafue is exceptional, and our location gives us access to both the riverine habitats and the superb miombo woodland birding.
At the dambo (wetland) not far from the main camp is a bird hide where you can sit for hours and watch the animals come to drink and wallow, and tick off the hundreds of species of birds from your list. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!
